The same way superheroes want to protect their cities, Stuko wants to protect your home! And just like most superheroes have an arch enemy, the same way  Stucco’s main enemy is Water Intrusion. As most villains Water Intrusion has many weapons at it’s disposal, that is why contractors, builders, architectects, engineers and homeowners main responsibility when it comes to protection of their homes and buildings is to keep them safe from water intrusion.

All superheroes have vulnerabilities and for stucco homes when not applied correctly those vulnerabilities are exposed. Some of the vulnerable areas (which we will expand in future entries) of stucco homes are :

-penetrations

-window seals

– improper installation of exterior doors

-drainage systems

-flashing

-etc (we will get yall a full list…eventually)

These are just a few of the areas that we have learned along the many years of working in the stucco field being neglected, overlooked hence not protected or improperly installed. All these vulnerabilities allow Water Intrusion to bridge the building. And so water finds its way in creating havoc and damage, sometimes visible and sometimes unnoticed until it’s too late. It’s damage can be cracks along stucco, mold, balcony failure, and even structural damage! These are costly damages and effect the homeowner severely! Water intrusion attacks the vulnerabilities of stucco and that’s why it’s important to be protected with waterproofing procedures.

But loose no hope We have some tools that you can put under your belt that will provide the ability to conquer challenges through special techniques. Some of these tools are the application of liquid membranes around penetrations, correct flashing around doors, windows, balconies, roofs and transitions. For proper drainage rainscreens, water resistant barriers, weep screeds are installed. These are very technical tools that help strengthen stucco and allows it to endure any water intrusion.

How can you find out if my home is being attacked now ?
But like superheroes we also have hope in the tools under our belts, the first tool is a Stucco inspections. Stucco inspections can test different areas around your home to see if water intrusion is occurring. With the use of moisture readers, a specialist will come out and get exact readings on moisture levels around your home. This will further determine if there needs to be any repairs or if your home is well protected from water intrusion.
